Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

  • AAC includes any way of communicating besides speaking—like sign language, picture boards, or speech-generating devices such as electronic tablets. Whether your loved one is a child who is learning language for the first time or an individual relearning language after an illness or injury, AAC offers a way to connect, express themselves, and participate more fully in daily life.

  • AAC can support individuals who:

    • Have delayed language development

    • Don’t speak or speak very little

    • Are difficult to understand

    • Have lost the ability to speak due to a neurological condition

  • We support you through every step of the AAC journey—assessment, device selection, navigating the funding process, ongoing treatment, communication partner training, and device customization. We work closely with parents, caregivers, and other members of the individual’s care team to build confidence in supporting AAC use at home, school, work, and in the community.
