Gestalt Language Processing
-
Some children learn to talk using “chunks” of language—like quotes from shows and songs or repeated sentences—instead of one word at a time. This is called gestalt language processing. It’s a natural way to learn language, but some children can get “stuck” in the early stages of language development.
-
Gestalt language processing is common in neurodivergent children. If your child is a gestalt language processor, they may:
Repeat scripts from media
Echo full sentences instead of answering questions
Repeat the same phrase out of context
Speaks in ways that sound like speech but aren’t easily understood
Have tried traditional speech therapy with limited progress
-
We use evidence-based, child-led therapy to support your child’s journey from scripted language to flexible, original communication while honoring their individual learning style.
